(Once and again) 2019 was the year of Keanu Reeves the ladies! Everywhere you looked you could see a woman on a newspaper headline, from prime minister Theresa May renouncing the job to Miley Cyrus getting married to Liam Hemsworth (and then getting divorce from Liam Hemsworth)..
The big film studios finally gave in to the power of super-heroines and on the streets women took the power to protest against the evil in the real world.
The big film studios finally gave in to the power of super-heroines and on the streets women took the power to protest against the evil in the real world.
Take a look back at some of my favorite moments of 2019:
Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney, 'Captain Marvel' came to life played by Oscar winner actress Brie Larson packed with action, humor, and visual thrills on March this year. Super heroine Carol Danvers appeared on the theaters later again in 'Avengers: End Game' and will return for a sequel of the franchise in 2022.
Also launched this year: the reboot of the 1970s TV series "Charlie's Angels," with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska as the famous international spies Sabina, Elena and Jane.
Females film director rising up: The action comedy was written and directed by Elizabeth Banks (who also plays Bosley).
Speaking of it Kristen Stewart, the Hollywood Critics Association has named the Chanel's ambassador the 'Actress of the Decade', the first award of its kind. We could see the American actress and former jury member of the Cannes Film Festival almost everywhere this year and on the cover of almost every magazine!
Still talking about 'Charlie's Angels' movie - of course the theme song would have to be played by girls.. I mean, a power trio like that!
Meanwhile in Brazil, Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie shook the structures of the Comic Con Experience in São Paulo.. They came to the city to promote their movies 'WW84' and 'Birds of Pray' that have date to launch next year.
Important note 1: both movies were directed by women, Patty Jenkins and Cathy Yan
Important note 2: Daisy Ridley was here too promoting 'Star Wars'..
The end of a saga.. In 'Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker' Rey (character played by British actress Daisy Ridley) is the main protagonist of the trilogy's final film and sets the outcome of an epic journey in a galaxy far, far away. And let's not forget - it's the perfect goodbye to Princess Leia/ Carrie Fisher.
From the red carpets to the streets.. Jane Fonda was arrested for a fifth time in Washington, D.C. as part of her ongoing climate change march. The Oscar winner actress has been protesting weekly during her 'Fire Drill Fridays' since announcing she was moving to Washington "to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate." (US Today)
You don't need to be a movie star to fight for a cause and be heard: Climate activist Greta Thunberg started protesting on 20 August 2018, outside of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm and finished 2019 as the first teenager to received TIME’s Person of the Year 2019 recognition.
Would these bring us hope for a better future.. What do you think?
Well, I don't know if it will be a better future but will certainly be a female one!
Happy New Year!
