Love from the Future

Will love be possible in the future?

Updating our romantic movie guide to you today in honor of Valentine's Day coming next Monday. What this selection of 5 (+ 1 bonus) films have in common besides their beautiful and intense love stories? They all are from my favorite genre: sci-fi.

In a post-apocalyptic world, would you trust anyone enough you could allow yourself to feel love for them? Will artificial intelligence be capable of experience human feelings? Will machines help us remember how it used to be loved by someone? Good luck trying to answer these question after streaming the movies bellow:

Neo and Trinity got me wondering... Would it be possible to have a second chance for love in the future?

1. Matrix Resurrections, 2021

When love makes you live again.

After 20 years we're back to The Matrix in the next chapter of the groundbreaking (and mind blowing) 2000's franchise. Directed by Lana Wachowski and returning to their iconic roles: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith. Available now on HBOMax.

2. Equals, 2015

When love is forbidden.

'Equals' is a 2015 American science fiction romantic drama film directed by Drake Doremus, starring one of our favorite actress (and now also a 1st time Oscars Nominee for 'Spencer'), Kristen Stewart and sweetest British Nicholas Hoult. Particularly, I believe it's based on George Lucas classic 'THX 1138'.
On Google Play.

3. Reminiscence, 2021

When memories is all you have left.

Miami coast got devastated by climate change and is now partially sunken in a future that remembering the past is the only way to feel love again. This neo-noir science fiction thriller film was written and directed by ('Westworld' co-creator) Lisa Joy and has Wolverine Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, Thandiwe Newton and Cliff Curtis in the cast.
On HBOMax.

4. Her, 2013

When artificial love reminds you of the real one.

I believe you all know this one starring Joaquin Phoenix, right? Written, directed, and produced by Spike Jonze. Available on Star+ and Prime Video.

5. Zoe, 2018

When love makes you question your reality.

Another beautiful science fiction film directed by Drake Doremus (you see a pattern here, right?). This time starring #MCM Ewan McGregor and French latest Bond girl Léa Seydoux.
On Apple TV.

Bonus. Warning, 2021

In this case, when love is not possible at all.

The meaning of life explored through multiple interconnected lives set in the near future. Directed by Agata Alexander, starring Thomas Jane, Tomasz Kot, Toni Garrn, Rupert Everett. On HBOMax.
